Savannah Guthrie to Take Hiatus from Today Show for Vocal Surgery
Savannah Guthrie is stepping away from the Today show temporarily as she prepares for vocal surgery, revealing a long-running health issue that has quietly affected her for years.
The 53-year-old co-anchor spoke directly to viewers Friday morning, addressing the increasingly hoarse, crackling tone that fans had noticed.
“Some of you may have noticed my voice has been very scratchy and has started to crack. Well, I found out what it is,” Guthrie said.

“It’s not a big, big deal,” she reassured viewers. “But I will need surgery and I’ll be off for a couple of weeks. So this is my last day for a little while.”
Guthrie, who has co-hosted Today alongside Craig Melvin since 2012, admitted the issue had been ongoing far longer than the public realized.
“This has been going on for years, honestly,” she shared. “So to finally have a solution feels incredibly positive.”
