Today Marks My Temporary Goodbye — Here’s What’s Next

A Silent Recovery Ahead

The procedure will require Guthrie to remain totally silent while her vocal cords heal—a major challenge for someone whose career depends on her voice.

Colleagues offered immediate support on air. Sheinelle Jones, who had the same surgery, shared her experience:

“I had the same thing — the surgery is in and out. The silver lining is you’re given permission to be still. The house gets quiet. The kids want to help.”

In a playful gesture, Sheinelle even gifted Guthrie a whiteboard to communicate during her silent recovery. Craig Melvin added his encouragement:

“We wish you healing and a smooth recovery.”

NBC has not yet announced a firm return date.

Not Her First Health Challenge

This isn’t Guthrie’s first medical setback. In 2019, she suffered a serious eye injury when her young son accidentally struck her with a toy train, resulting in temporary vision loss and multiple surgeries.

“That was probably the lowest I felt,” Guthrie said. “I was really scared I might lose my sight.”

Now, the mother of two—daughter Vale, 11, and son Charley, 9—faces a different challenge: healing her voice while balancing family life.

“This isn’t goodbye — just a moment to heal,” Guthrie said, leaving fans with a heartfelt and calm farewell.

Her return to the desk is eagerly awaited, but for now, Savannah is focused on rest, recovery, and regaining her signature voice.
