A Flight to Remember
Kayla was drained—emotionally exhausted, physically spent, and six months pregnant. All she wanted was the comfort of her bed after saying a final goodbye to her grandmother, the woman who had been her steady anchor.
As she packed her suitcase, her mother lingered at the doorway, hesitation in her eyes.
“Are you sure you want to leave today?” she asked gently. “You could stay longer, take your time to process everything.”
Kayla gave a wistful smile. “I wish I could, but I need to get back. Colin’s hopeless without me, and work won’t wait.”
Her mother nodded. “I understand. Just know your father and I will be here a few more days sorting through your grandmother’s things. I only wish she could’ve been here to meet the baby.”
Kayla placed a hand on her belly, swallowing the lump rising in her throat. “Me too. More than anything.”
