Blue stop signs do exist—but you won’t find them on public streets or highways. Unlike the universally recognized red octagons sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Transportation, blue stop signs serve a much different, more specialized purpose. They’re used exclusively on private property: gated communities, university campuses, corporate parks, and industrial complexes.
These signs carry no legal authority under public traffic laws, but they play a critical role in directing vehicles and protecting pedestrians in areas where municipal regulations don’t apply. So why the blue?
