After spending a year working on an oil pipeline in Alaska, Kyle Greenbecker was eager to return home to his wife, Lisa. They’d married young, and despite the distance, Kyle had remained devoted. But when he walked through the front door of their home, nothing could have prepared him for what he found—a baby in a bassinet on the kitchen table.
Two handwritten notes lay beside the child. One, from an unknown source, accused Kyle of fathering the child and demanded he take responsibility. The second, from Lisa, explained that she had discovered the baby on their porch the day before. Believing the child was the result of Kyle’s infidelity, she admitted to her own affairs and said she couldn’t handle raising someone else’s baby. She had already filed for divorce and left the house just minutes before Kyle arrived.
Shocked and heartbroken, Kyle knew the child wasn’t his. But when the baby girl reached out and clutched his finger, something shifted inside him.
“I guess it’s just you and me now,” he whispered.
