Elon Musks final message after resigning from DOGE

In a surprising turn of events that captured national attention, Elon Musk has stepped down early from his advisory position within the federal government, citing concerns over the latest federal spending proposal. The decision, made three days before the end of his term, has sparked widespread discussion across political and tech communities.

“I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful… but I don’t know if it can be both,” Musk said during a candid interview with CBS, aired on May 27.

Musk was serving as a Special Government Employee—an advisory role within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a program co-led with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. The initiative’s goal was to reduce waste, streamline bureaucracy, and evaluate the effectiveness of various government programs.

Though Musk’s role was temporary, his exit came with significant public attention, largely due to his reaction to President Donald Trump’s new spending initiative—unofficially referred to as the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” The proposal includes substantial increases in defense funding, corporate tax reductions, and major investment in a missile defense system known as the “Golden Dome.” While the bill has passed in the House, it is currently awaiting Senate approval.

Critics warn that the bill could significantly increase the national deficit, with some estimates projecting over $600 billion in additional spending. Musk voiced his opposition plainly: “It undermines the entire premise of what DOGE was created to fix. It’s a step backward.”
