Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, 22, has once again found herself at the center of global headlines following her recent deportation from Israel and renewed commentary from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
On June 10, Thunberg was among a group of 12 activists aboard a boat attempting to deliver humanitarian aid toward Gaza. The vessel was intercepted by Israeli authorities before reaching its destination. Israeli officials described the mission as a publicity effort, while the activists stated their goal was to provide aid and raise awareness.
Following the incident, Thunberg shared a video on social media, where she said the group had been “intercepted in international waters.” Israeli authorities, however, disputed the account, asserting the interception took place in accordance with maritime law and security protocols.
Trump Reacts
In a press appearance the same day, former President Donald Trump was asked about the incident. He commented briefly on Thunberg, calling her “a young, angry person,” and said he didn’t believe her claims regarding the mission.
He added: “I think Israel has enough to deal with right now without getting involved in controversies like this.”
