As former President Donald Trump pushes forward in his campaign for a second term, conversations around his fitness to serve have reentered the national spotlight—not just politically, but physically and cognitively. With Trump now in his late 70s, and facing another grueling campaign cycle, some voices from within the GOP are raising pointed concerns about his ability to lead for another four years.

One of the most vocal figures is longtime Republican strategist Rick Wilson, co-founder of the Lincoln Project. Speaking recently with Times Radio, Wilson expressed doubts about Trump’s cognitive sharpness, claiming the former president has shown an increasing pattern of mental lapses and disjointed speech.

“He can’t hold onto a single thought,” Wilson said. “His speeches are filled with erratic topic changes and strange phrasing. These aren’t ordinary slips—they suggest something deeper.”

Wilson pointed to what he termed “verbal aphasias”—interruptions in speech and comprehension that can sometimes be symptomatic of neurological decline. Trump’s critics have cited instances of mispronounced names, incomplete sentences, and moments of confusion during public events.
