Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth responded firmly on Monday to growing media reports regarding a controversy over the use of the Signal messaging app. The reports center on alleged information sharing about military operations, including a strike on Houthi forces in Yemen.
Speaking to reporters during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, Hegseth dismissed recent claims as inaccurate and politically motivated. He emphasized his continued alignment with President Donald Trump and reaffirmed his commitment to national security.
“It’s not surprising that after a few personnel changes, some anonymous sources are now making headlines,” Hegseth said. “These are recycled claims from individuals no longer involved in our work, and they don’t reflect the mission we’re focused on at the Department of Defense.”
He also denied participating in a second Signal chat involving sensitive military details, as was reported by The New York Times. Hegseth insisted that no classified information was compromised and stressed the importance of focusing on defense readiness rather than political distractions.
When asked whether he had spoken with the president, Hegseth confirmed that they remain “on the same page all the way,” and that he has the full support of the administration.
