They say laughter is the best medicine, and sometimes the right joke at the right time can brighten an entire room. That’s exactly what happened when I came across a story so witty and perfectly timed that it had me laughing with tears in my eyes. It’s set on a cruise ship—an ordinary evening that turned into something extraordinary thanks to one sharp-witted woman celebrating a milestone birthday.
Picture the scene: the ship’s lounge is alive with chatter, music drifts softly in the background, and travelers from all over the world are gathered at the bar. Among them is a dignified older woman with a sparkle in her eyes. She approaches the bartender and makes a very particular request:
“I’d like a Scotch with two drops of water,” she says politely.
The bartender, a little puzzled but accommodating, prepares the drink and sets it before her. Before he can ask about her unusual request, she explains with a smile, “It’s my 80th birthday today.”
Surprised and touched, the bartender grins. “Well, then, this one’s on the house. Happy birthday!”
