His portrayal of Alex P. Keaton, a witty and ambitious teen, made him a household name and earned him three Emmy Awards. Just a few years later, he cemented his place in Hollywood history with the role of Marty McFly in Back to the Future (1985). His chemistry with Christopher Lloyd became legendary, and the trilogy remains one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.
