What started as an ordinary afternoon quickly turned into chaos, laughs, and a story Amelia would never forget.
She was lounging on the couch, folding laundry and scrolling through her phone, waiting for her husband, Mark, to grab a loaf of bread on his way home — a simple errand he’d done countless times. Fifteen minutes passed with no reply, so Amelia decided to nudge him with a playful jab:
“Are you with Valerie again?”
Valerie wasn’t real — just an old joke between them. Amelia expected a laugh later, not the panic that followed.
Mark’s reply came almost instantly:
“Yep. With Valerie. We’re just near your favorite bakery.”
Amelia froze. Her favorite bakery? This wasn’t random. Her mind raced, heart pounding. She grabbed her purse, threw on her coat, and bolted to the bakery, imagining the worst.
The bakery was full of ordinary people — no Mark, no Valerie — just the comforting smell of fresh bread and pastries. She texted him again:
