Heroic 5-year-old carries sister out of burning home, then rushes back to help save 7 other family members

A five-year-old boy is being celebrated as a true hero after waking up to flames next to his bed and saving his family of nine.

“I picked Lily up, got to the window with Lily, got the dog and got out,” Noah Woods, 5, told WSBTV. But what sounds simple took courage far beyond his years.

Early Sunday morning, an electrical fire broke out in the bedroom Noah shared with his two-year-old sister, Lily. Realizing the danger, he grabbed his sister, the family dog, and escaped through the only available exit—a window. But Noah didn’t stop there. Once he was safe, he ran back inside to wake his uncle, helping ensure the rest of the family could escape.

The Bartow County Fire Department posted, “Our hero! 5-year-old Noah Woods recently woke up to find his bedroom on fire. He got himself and his 2-year-old sister out and reentered the house to alert the rest of the family.”

Thanks to Noah’s quick thinking, all nine family members escaped safely. Noah and four others were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation, but everyone survived.

“If it wasn’t for Noah, we were all asleep, so we wouldn’t have known what was going on,” said David Woods, Noah’s grandfather. “We could’ve all lost our lives.”
