Donald Trump addressed the nation from the White House Wednesday, delivering news that’s sure to catch the attention of military families nationwide. In a nod to the nation’s founding, the former president announced that 1.45 million U.S. service members will receive a $1,776 check, calling it the “Warrior Dividend.”
“1,450,000 military service members will receive a special—what we call—a warrior dividend before Christmas,” Trump said. “In honor of our nation’s founding in 1776, we are sending every soldier $1,776. Checks are already on the way.”
Trump credited tariffs and previous revenue gains as the source of funding, though exact financial details remain limited. According to a senior administration official cited by CNN, the Pentagon, under direction from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, is issuing $2.6 billion as a one-time housing allowance supplement to eligible service members in pay grades O-6 and below. This includes roughly 1.28 million Active Component and 174,000 Reserve Component personnel.
“This one-time payment exemplifies the Department’s ongoing commitment to improving housing and quality of life for military members and their families,” the official said.
