Kim Kardashian is speaking out after facing renewed public criticism over her parenting choices, following viral images of her eldest daughter that sparked widespread online debate.
The reality star and entrepreneur shares four children with her former husband, Kanye West. The pair, who were married from 2014 to 2022, welcomed their first child, North West, in 2013. Now 12, North has increasingly drawn attention for her bold self-expression—especially on social media.
“No One Knows What I’m Dealing With”
Kim recently opened up about the challenges of raising a child in the public eye during an appearance on her sister Khloé Kardashian’s podcast, Khloé in Wonderland. When asked about parenting her oldest child, Kim explained that outsiders often don’t understand the realities she faces.
“No one knows unless they’re in my shoes what I’m dealing with,” she said, referencing the constant scrutiny that comes with being a high-profile parent.
North has been active online, sharing photos and videos that showcase colorful hairstyles, playful fashion choices, and what appeared to be body piercings—including images of a dermal-style piercing on her finger that quickly went viral.
Backlash Over Appearance and Health Concerns
The posts triggered social media backlash, with critics questioning whether the look was appropriate for a child her age and raising concerns about health risks. It was later clarified that the piercings were not permanent and were, in fact, fake.
North herself appears aware of the public attention surrounding her image. She even released a song titled “Piercing on My Hand (Ye Version)”, with lyrics referencing fame, fashion, and individuality—suggesting a self-aware response to online commentary.
Setting Rules While Encouraging Self-Expression
Kim also addressed claims that she parents more like a “best friend” than a disciplinarian. According to her, that assumption is inaccurate.
“People think I’m just trying to be her bestie and letting her get away with everything,” Kim said. “That’s not true. North actually has a lot of rules.”
She explained that while structure is important in their household, she intentionally allows her daughter room to express herself creatively.
“The one area I do give her freedom is self-expression,” she said. “I love that about her—and she would do it regardless.”
Kim added that North’s love for colorful hair and accessories isn’t new. She recalled photos from North’s early childhood featuring bright braids and playful fake jewelry.
“She’s always loved colored braids since she was little,” Kim noted.
Homeschooling and Real-World Skills
In addition to navigating fame, Kim is also deeply involved in her daughter’s education. While pursuing her own legal studies, Kim is homeschooling North and focusing on practical, real-world learning.
“She really is who she is, and she always has been,” Kim said. “So I nurture that.”
She explained that North’s lessons include applied math through budgeting exercises, as well as a brand-building class with a structured curriculum—reflecting skills relevant to modern careers and entrepreneurship.
