Celebrities often seem to have it all—fame, fortune, and a life in the spotlight. But behind the glitz, struggles can run deep. Josh Brolin’s new memoir, From Under the Truck, pulls back the curtain on a life shaped by chaos, tough love, and ultimately, redemption.

Brolin shares a childhood marked by unconventional parenting. His mother, Jane, a wildlife conservationist, reportedly played a dangerous trick on him and his brother. She would tease nearby wild animals—cougars, bobcats, coyotes—and encourage them to chase the boys if they didn’t react fast.

“You knew if you didn’t get on the other side of that shut door within a couple of seconds, you’d be cleaning up fresh bloody marks somewhere on your body for the rest of the day,” Brolin recalls. Despite the fear, he still valued his mother’s presence, even amid her hard ways. Tragically, Jane passed away in a car accident at 55 in 1995.
