Over his 41-year career, James entertained US troops around the globe. His nieces—Martha Anne, Mary Jane, and Candie—were by his side in his final days. His forthcoming memoir, A Bushel of Beans and a Peck of Tomatoes: The Life and Times of “The Funniest Man in America,” is scheduled for release in November.
