Dolly Parton criticized for looking “cheap” and “ugly” – but she’s hit back

At 77, Dolly Parton is a household name in both country music and the broader celebrity landscape. The Tennessee native has become a true icon, captivating audiences with her performances throughout her life.

In a recent interview with Pollystar, Dolly shared that she would no longer be embarking on extensive tours. She stated, “I’ll do special shows here and there, maybe a long weekend of performances or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore.”

Having risen to the pinnacle of the entertainment world after growing up in poverty in the Appalachian Mountains, Dolly will surely be missed on stage. However, while her popularity is undeniable, she has faced criticism regarding her appearance for years.

Dolly has often recalled being advised to change her signature look early in her career. “The main advice that people wanted to give me was to change my look— to simplify my hair and style,” she explained. “They said I would never be taken seriously if I didn’t look less flashy.”
