“Working remotely means I miss out on office Christmas parties where coworkers often let their guard down. My husband, Travis, attended his company’s party, and as a playful gesture, I sent him off with a note written on his chest.
Travis doesn’t handle alcohol well, so it was all in good fun.
After five years of marriage, trust comes naturally to us. It started as a joke when I had a marker in hand while he was getting dressed. I wrote on his chest, ‘This is my husband—handle with care—M.’
‘Micaela,’ he laughed as he left, ‘I’m just going out for a few drinks. I’ll be back early.’
While he was out, I decorated the house for Christmas. When Travis returned home later, clearly a bit tipsy, I helped him to bed and noticed someone had added to my note.
‘Keep the change,’ it read.
I found it amusing at first, but as I relaxed and watched Christmas movies, the message lingered in my mind.
The next day, I casually asked Travis about the party. He mentioned they had started at the office, then went to a bar for karaoke, and ended up at a club. When I brought up the note, he seemed puzzled.
