After years of trying to conceive, Lucy and Ross were overjoyed to learn they were expecting twins—a boy and a girl. The ultrasound confirmed their hopes, and they eagerly anticipated their arrival. But on the day of discharge, an unexpected turn left Lucy confused and concerned.
When the nurse, Savannah, returned from checking the babies, she handed Lucy two little girls. “This can’t be right,” Lucy exclaimed. “I had a boy and a girl!” Her face turned pale as she looked at Savannah. “Where’s my son? And who is this other girl?”
Savannah hesitated, glancing nervously at the documents. “These are your daughters,” she replied, avoiding Lucy’s gaze.
Lucy’s frustration grew. “This makes no sense. We have reports showing we were having a boy and a girl. Where is my son?” Her husband, Ross, stood by her side, just as concerned. At that moment, Dr. Linda Carter walked in, sensing the tension. “Let’s stay calm; it may be a simple mistake,” she assured them, asking Savannah for the documents. But Savannah seemed reluctant. Dr. Carter, sensing something wrong, insisted.
After reviewing the records, Dr. Carter uncovered the issue. “Savannah, there’s been a mix-up. This baby girl belongs to another family,” she said, guiding the nurse out of the room. Intrigued and unsettled, Lucy decided to follow.
Outside Dr. Carter’s office, Lucy overheard Savannah tearfully confess, “I switched the babies, Doctor. The baby girl is my niece. Her mother, my sister, passed away during childbirth, and now she’s alone. My husband won’t let me adopt her, and I wanted her to have a loving family.”
Dr. Carter, stunned, asked, “Why not arrange care through other channels?”
