For twelve years, Layla’s husband, Tom, went on an annual family island vacation without her. Every year, he left her and their two young children behind, insisting that his mother didn’t want any in-laws on the trip.
Finally, Layla suggested they skip this year’s trip and take the kids on a holiday together instead. But Tom quickly dismissed her, giving her the same excuse as always.
Layla’s curiosity grew when she stumbled upon photos from last year’s trip. Tom’s siblings were there with their spouses, all laughing and enjoying each other’s company. But hadn’t Tom’s mother insisted on no in-laws?
Determined to get answers, Layla called her sister-in-law, Sadie, who cheerfully mentioned she thought Layla had missed last year because of childcare issues. That was all Layla needed to start piecing things together. She then approached her mother-in-law, Denise.
