She balanced the demands of her job with her love for her family, believing she was building a stable life with her husband, Victor, and their four-year-old son, Mason. Returning home from a three-day trip, Paige eagerly anticipated reuniting with her family. But as she entered, she overheard Victor speaking softly to Mason with an urgency that caught her off guard.

“Buddy, you’ve got to promise me something,” he whispered. “Don’t tell Mom what you saw, okay?”

Mason’s voice was quiet but uncertain. “But I don’t like secrets, Dad.”

Victor hesitated. “This one is important. If Mom finds out, it’ll make her really sad.”

The conversation left Paige shaken. She tried to brush it off, rationalizing it as a minor secret about candy or an extra hour of TV. Yet, a whisper of doubt lingered. That night, she struggled to sleep, haunted by Victor’s words. Why would something trivial make her sad?
