After Agatha’s husband Richard passed, she was shocked to learn he’d left his entire estate to a woman she’d never met, while she inherited only an old pendant. Then, the mysterious heir, Sue Raymond, introduced herself.
Agatha and Richard had met in college, eventually settling on a large farm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After years of trying for children, they accepted it might never happen and instead focused on building a life together. As they grew older, they moved to a smaller place in the suburbs to enjoy retirement.
When Richard passed suddenly from a heart attack, Agatha mourned deeply, grateful for the life they’d shared. But a few weeks later, the lawyer called, requesting she come in for a will reading. Confused, she asked, “Why a reading? We have no children or close relatives.”
“Please, Mrs. Chambers, just come in tomorrow,” Mr. Perkins replied.
At the office, Agatha was surprised to see another woman waiting. Mr. Perkins introduced her, then opened Richard’s will: “I, Richard Chambers, hereby leave all my property and remaining assets to Sue Raymond. To my wife Agatha, I leave my mother’s turquoise pendant.”
Dumbfounded, Agatha asked, “Who is Sue Raymond? Why did Richard keep this from me?”
Sue spoke up, explaining, “I recently connected with Richard. He’s… my father. We confirmed it with a DNA test. My mother, Sophie, never told him she was pregnant. She moved away, and I only discovered the truth after finding old letters between them.”
Agatha, still reeling, asked, “Did you ask him for anything?” Sue shook her head but explained she was struggling financially and that a stable home for her daughters would mean the world. She added, “I’d be willing to split the inheritance, Agatha.”
