Kindness often comes full circle in ways we don’t expect. For Mr. Harrison, a retired teacher, a small act of compassion one snowy day sparked a chain of events that would resonate for years.
On a quiet winter day, Mr. Harrison sat in his usual spot at a diner, reading To Kill a Mockingbird when a young boy, Alex, entered. Shivering and underdressed for the cold, Alex tried to buy something from the vending machine but fell short of the required change.
Noticing him, Mr. Harrison invited the boy to sit. He ordered Alex a hot meal, and as they talked, Alex shared his struggles at home. “You remind me of one of my students,” Mr. Harrison said, “full of potential. Don’t sell yourself short.”
