A statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed that while the former president will participate in the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies, Michelle Obama has chosen not to attend.
Her absence follows her decision to miss the funeral of President Jimmy Carter, which was recently held at the Washington National Cathedral. According to reports, she had a prior commitment and extended her holiday vacation in Hawaii during that time.
Since the passing of her mother, Marian Robinson, in May, Michelle Obama has maintained a lower public profile. Robinson played a significant role in her life and the upbringing of her daughters, and her loss has deeply impacted the former first lady.
