I planned our family vacation with the hope that it would bring us closer—just the three of us, reconnecting after a tough year. What was meant to be a chance to bond, however, turned into an experience I’ll never forget.
Family vacations are meant to strengthen relationships and create cherished memories. At least, that’s what I always believed. This time, though, what started as a beloved tradition quickly became one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life.
Being a working mom is never easy, but I had always prided myself on balancing career and family. My job kept me busy, often requiring long hours, but I always ensured my family had everything they needed.
My husband, Mark, used to have a steady job, but after being laid off two years ago, things changed. He took on occasional work, but the primary financial responsibility fell on me. I didn’t mind—I did what was necessary for my family. However, I had started noticing a growing distance between us. By the time I got home from work, Mark was already asleep, and something felt different between us.
