A father with Down syndrome raised his son, who is now a doctor

In a quiet Syrian town, a remarkable story of family, perseverance, and unconditional love has touched people around the world. It’s the story of Jad Issa, a dedicated father with Down syndrome, and his son, Sader Issa, who grew up to become a successful dentist. Together, their journey has inspired many and challenged common perceptions about disability and parenting.

Jad spent much of his life working at a local wheat mill, earning a modest income. Despite the challenges that can come with Down syndrome, he approached fatherhood with commitment and warmth. More than meeting the basics, he created a home full of support, encouragement, and joy. Those close to the family remember Jad’s pride shining through every time he introduced his son: “This is my son, the doctor,” he would say—long before that dream became a reality.

Sader remembers his childhood with great affection. He describes a household where love was always present and where his father’s steady support helped him believe in himself. That foundation gave him the motivation to work hard and pursue an education in dentistry—a path that eventually led him to becoming a practicing dental surgeon.

Today, Sader shares their story not just as a son, but as someone who hopes to change how society views people with Down syndrome. He highlights the qualities his father modeled: kindness, responsibility, resilience, and a quiet strength that continues to inspire. Through interviews and public speaking, Sader reminds audiences that people with Down syndrome can lead fulfilling lives, build families, and contribute meaningfully to their communities when given the opportunity.
