Donald Trump’s long-discussed fascination with Greenland has taken a startling new turn. Sources say the former president has instructed top U.S. generals to draw up a full military plan for a potential Greenland invasion, raising alarm across the Arctic, Europe, and Washington.

Trump has repeatedly hinted at annexing Greenland, but his rhetoric has grown increasingly urgent—and confrontational. Last Friday, he warned the U.S. would act “whether they like it or not,” adding, “We’re going to be doing something with Greenland, either the nice way or the more difficult way.”

The comments have strained relations between the U.S., Denmark, and Greenland. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the situation “a fateful moment,” emphasizing the stakes for NATO cooperation. “If the Americans are turning their backs on a NATO ally, as they are threatening to do now, everything could stop,” she warned.
