Five months into his second term, President Donald Trump is facing growing political pressure as new polling data reveals a shifting public mood. His national approval rating has dipped just below 50 percent, key battleground states are showing signs of movement, and global events are putting his administration’s foreign policy to the test.

A recent Daily Boulder survey conducted in mid-July shows 45 percent of voters approve of the president’s performance, while 46 percent disapprove and 9 percent remain undecided. This reflects a modest but meaningful shift from January, when approval was at 49 percent. Analysts note that such trends, even if gradual, often reflect deeper currents of public concern—especially in the lead-up to critical midterm elections.

Public confidence in the country’s overall direction is also wavering. Just 48 percent of those surveyed believe the U.S. is on the right path, while 53 percent say they feel the country is headed in the wrong direction. This sentiment could significantly influence midterm turnout, where voter enthusiasm often determines outcomes.
