We take three-mile lake walks about five times a week. She meets her girlfriends monthly, reads voraciously, and calls her 91-year-old sister daily. Her sister, who still works as an accountant, visits us twice a year.
My mom’s other great love is her tablet, which I gave her last Christmas. She uses it to explore favorite authors, composers, non-mainstream news, ballets, and operas. At midnight, I often hear her say, “I should sleep, but someone put Pavarotti on YouTube!”
Her energy and humor are a gift. The photo here is from two years ago when she dressed up for a flight. “I look horrible!” she claimed. I reassured her, “Mom, most people your age don’t even get to be here.”
If you’re having a rough day, I hope her story lifts your spirits.
