Authorities Respond After Aircraft Hits Buildings During Takeoff

A horrifying scene unfolded at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport yesterday, November 4, as UPS Flight 2976 crashed just after takeoff, bursting into a massive fireball captured on camera.

The cargo plane went down around 5:15 p.m. EST, hitting buildings just three miles south of Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky. Authorities confirmed at least seven fatalities and eleven people injured, many with “very significant” injuries, meaning the death toll could rise.

The plane struck a recycling center and narrowly missed other businesses, including an auto parts store, according to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. First responders were on-site immediately, battling the fire and assisting victims.

“Air monitoring assets have been deployed, and we are working to keep the public informed and safe,” Beshear wrote on social media, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

UPS expressed heartbreak over the crash, stating their “heartfelt thoughts are with everyone involved” and confirmed they are coordinating closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
