Authorities have identified Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, as the suspected shooter responsible for the tragic death of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA. The announcement comes after a nationwide search for the individual who fatally shot Kirk during a speaking event at Utah Valley University.
Nearly 3,000 people had gathered for Kirk’s rally when a single gunshot rang out approximately 20 minutes into the event. Witnesses described chaos as the crowd panicked while Kirk was struck in the neck. The 31-year-old was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead roughly 90 minutes later.
Law enforcement acted swiftly following the incident, launching a comprehensive investigation led by local authorities and the FBI. Surveillance footage released by federal investigators showed a person fleeing from a rooftop near the event site. A rifle and ammunition were later recovered in nearby woodland.
On Thursday evening, Tyler Robinson was reportedly taken into custody near St. George, Utah, after being identified by a family member who brought him to law enforcement. Details of the arrest indicate that Robinson’s father and a U.S. marshal were involved in the process.
President Donald Trump spoke about the arrest during an appearance on Fox News, emphasizing the need for justice. “I hope he’s going to be found guilty, and I hope he gets the death penalty,” Trump said. “Charlie Kirk was an exceptional person and didn’t deserve this.”
