Bath & Body Works Scraps Winter Candle After Controversial Design Sparks Outrage

Candles are a simple pleasure—soft light, cozy vibes, and a scent that can transform a room. But Bath & Body Works recently discovered that even something meant to bring comfort can ignite controversy.

The retailer’s winter-themed ‘Snowed In’ candle made waves online for an unexpected reason: the packaging. Social media users quickly noticed that the white figures decorating the candle resembled the pointed hoods of the Ku Klux Klan, overshadowing the intended snowy, paper-snowflake design.

The candle itself featured three wicks and was meant to celebrate winter coziness. But the pointed white figures, intended as decorative snowflakes, sparked a backlash. Memes and hashtags quickly spread, with some dubbing it the “Klan Krismas Kandle.” Reddit threads and posts across Twitter and Instagram fueled the fire, questioning how such a design made it to stores in the first place.

Bath & Body Works responded promptly, emphasizing that the similarity was unintentional. They issued an official apology:

“At Bath & Body Works, we are committed to listening to our teams and customers and committed to fixing any mistakes we make, even those that are unintentional like this one. We apologize to anyone we’ve offended and are swiftly working to have this item removed and are evaluating our process going forward.”
