An Adelaide man has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 20 years before parole after a heartbreaking family tragedy that shocked South Australia in 2019.
The Supreme Court of South Australia handed down the ruling in a case that highlighted the devastating consequences of unresolved conflict and the fragile nature of family relationships.

The Case Background

The case involved 49-year-old Petrit Lekaj, who was arrested in July 2019 following the death of his 20-year-old daughter, Sabrina.
According to court reports, tension had been growing between father and daughter over personal disagreements.
On the night of the incident, what began as a routine outing to pick up food escalated into a confrontation that ended with Sabrina’s death and Petrit’s immediate arrest.

Court Findings and Sentencing

Justice Trish Kelly described the act as a “catastrophic breach of trust,” noting that the impact stretched well beyond the immediate family.
“The bond between a parent and child is ordinarily fundamental,” she said. “When that bond is so tragically broken, the consequences are immeasurable.”
