The lawyer, Mr. Thompson, explained the unusual terms of the late great-aunt’s will: the inheritance would go to one of two potential beneficiaries, determined by a coin toss. Samantha and Richard were the two candidates.
Richard scoffed at the idea. “A coin toss? Ridiculous.”
Mr. Thompson remained composed, explaining that the late Ms. Harper believed in fate and that the coin toss would decide who would inherit the estate. Heads, it would go to Samantha. Tails, it would go to Richard.
With a flick of his thumb, Mr. Thompson spun the coin, and it landed on heads. Samantha had won the inheritance.
Richard’s reaction was explosive. “This isn’t fair!” he shouted, slamming his fist on the table. “I need that money! I have bills to pay!”
Despite his outburst, Mr. Thompson stood firm. “The decision is final.”
Richard’s frustration turned to bitterness, and he lashed out. “You don’t deserve it! You didn’t even know her!” But Samantha held her ground, and as she left, she noticed Dean’s bravado from earlier was gone. Richard, once full of arrogance, was now defeated.
Back at her hotel, Samantha reflected on the day. She had won the inheritance, but what mattered most was the lesson she had witnessed: karma had a way of showing up. Richard and Dean had mocked her, but in the end, they had nothing to show for it. Samantha walked away with a valuable reminder: self-worth isn’t determined by how others treat you, but by how you rise above their negativity.
