Chaos on Knight Street: Semi-Truck Smashes Into Cambie Road Overpass in Richmond

A dramatic crash brought southbound traffic on Knight Street to a standstill Friday morning after a commercial truck slammed into the Cambie Road overpass in Richmond, B.C.

RCMP confirmed the collision occurred around 7:15 a.m. PT, just south of the Knight Street Bridge. Authorities immediately closed the southbound lanes as engineers assessed the damage. “We don’t have a reopening timeline yet,” RCMP said, urging drivers to seek alternative routes.

City of Richmond officials noted that while the highway falls under provincial jurisdiction, city teams were on-site to inspect the overpass. “Staff are conducting structural checks to ensure the bridge is safe for traffic. We hope to reopen it as quickly as possible,” the city said.

Dennis Hwang reported the driver was co-operating, but by 3:30 p.m., authorities clarified that the commercial vehicle operator was no longer providing information.
