Chaos on Knight Street: Semi-Truck Smashes Into Cambie Road Overpass in Richmond

Investigators determined that the truck was towing a dump trailer in a raised position, which failed to clear the overpass. The trailer became severed from the truck during the collision. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The Richmond Road Safety Unit (RSU) has taken over the investigation, coordinating with B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for engineering and structural assessments of the bridge deck, Cambie Road overpass, and surrounding areas.

This incident is not isolated. Over the past year, Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley highways have seen multiple trucks collide with overpasses. Last July, an over-height load struck the Highway 1 overpass in Langley, marking the eighth such crash reported by the province.

The B.C. Trucking Association acknowledges driver error as a contributing factor but emphasizes the need for better infrastructure and highway safety measures to prevent similar accidents.
