Support services were made available to Lionel’s family, as well as to students and staff at the school.
Lionel’s mother, Dalia Cervantes, later shared a heartfelt message on social media. “I know he is now in a better place,” she wrote. “But my boy did not have to lose his life this way. I am so grateful for everyone who has reached out to support me and my children during this time.”
The school district and local authorities have not released further details, but both have expressed their condolences and are reviewing the incident to ensure the safety and well-being of all students moving forward.
Lionel is remembered as a bright and loving child who brought joy to those around him. The Simpsonville community has since come together to honor his memory and support the Cervantes family.
