COPS WARN OF NEW DANGEROUS SHOPPING CART TRAP

What began as a routine shopping trip for Cheryl and Mel Johnson turned into a nightmare they’ll never forget. The couple walked into a Walmart in Windsor, Connecticut, expecting a quick stop—but what they found inside has now sparked a nationwide safety warning.

Mel grabbed a cart near the entrance, chatting casually with his wife. Seconds later, he yanked his hand back in shock. “I thought I’d been stung,” he said. But when he looked closer, a razor blade was embedded in the handle, cutting his palm. Thankfully, the injury was minor, but the scare was immediate.

Store employees rushed over, and the manager called local police while inspecting every cart on the premises. Luckily, no other blades were found.

Investigators are now questioning the motive. Was it a cruel prank—or something more dangerous? Detectives note that in some cases, sharp objects in carts are linked to criminal schemes intended to distract staff or harm unsuspecting shoppers.

This isn’t the first time such an incident has occurred. In 2015, a mother in North Dakota found a razor blade hidden under a grocery cart handle. Authorities then warned it appeared intentional and designed to injure.

Police in Windsor are reviewing surveillance footage and testing the blade for fingerprints. Walmart has assured customers that safety is a “top priority” and announced new protocols to inspect carts multiple times a day.
