Country music icon Toby Keith passed away on February 5th, 2024 at the age of 62 after a battle with stomach cancer. The Oklahoma native was first diagnosed in fall 2021 and underwent treatment over the last few years. However, the disease ultimately took his life while surrounded by loved ones on Sunday.
Keith’s musical career spanned over three decades, during which he released chart-topping hits like “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!” and “Red Solo Cup.” Known for his signature storytelling style and patriotic anthems, Keith won various awards including Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards.
In 2023, Keith was honored with the inaugural Country Icon Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards. Despite his cancer diagnosis, Keith told reporters on the red carpet that his Christian faith gave him strength during the difficult time. Longtime friend Blake Shelton presented Keith with the award, calling him “my Oklahoma brother.”
