“My dad gave it to me,” I replied, unsure of what he meant.
He stared at it for a moment and then said, “Amy, this isn’t soap. This is industrial cleaner. It’s harmful and could cause serious damage.”
I couldn’t believe it. My dad had knowingly given me something dangerous. But why? I felt betrayed and confused.
A few days later, Henry and I moved out and found a small, safe apartment. I wasn’t ready to confront my parents yet, but I knew I had to.
When I finally did, I walked into the living room, holding the soap in my hand. “Why did you do this to me, Dad?” I asked.
He looked at me calmly. “I just thought you needed a lesson.”
“A lesson?” I was speechless. “You almost hurt me. Why?”
And then came the painful truth: “Your mom and I had some issues. I found out you’re not my biological daughter. I wasn’t sure how to handle it, so I thought this would teach you something.”
The revelation hit me like a ton of bricks. My father had taken his anger and frustration out on me—someone who had no control over the situation. I was just a child in all of this.
“You’re sick,” I said, my voice trembling. “How could you do this?”
Mom didn’t speak up. She just stood there. I couldn’t stay in that house anymore. I left and never looked back.
With Henry’s support, I sought legal advice and filed for a restraining order against my father. I also began the process of healing and rebuilding my life. The emotional damage was hard, but I knew I had to be strong.
I haven’t spoken to my mother since. She never stood up for me when I needed her most. But now, with Henry by my side, I’m finding my way. I’m no longer “Daddy’s little girl.” I’m Amy—strong, independent, and confident in my worth.
