He described the meeting as “intense and revealing,” asserting that much was learned under “immense pressure.” Trump claimed the exchange exposed Zelenskyy’s reluctance to pursue peace if the U.S. remained involved, believing American support gave him a strong advantage in negotiations. “I don’t seek to tip the scales; I seek PEACE,” Trump stated. “He showed disrespect to the United States in its hallowed Oval Office. He is welcome to return when he is truly ready for peace.”
The discussion grew even more heated as Trump pressed Zelenskyy, declaring, “Either you negotiate a deal, or we’re pulling out. Don’t dictate our stance to us. We’re working to resolve a conflict. You’re not in a position to set our course… We will remain strong and confident. You’ve put yourself in a weak position… You don’t hold the cards right now… You’re risking the lives of millions.”
Vice President Vance also challenged Zelenskyy, questioning his level of appreciation for U.S. assistance. “Have you expressed gratitude even once in this meeting?” Vance asked pointedly. “You traveled to Pennsylvania and openly supported our political opposition in October—perhaps a word of thanks to the U.S. and the president who’s working to save your country would be in order?”
Trump further reprimanded Zelenskyy, interrupting him at one point to say, “Your country is in serious trouble. Wait a moment. No, no—you’ve done plenty of talking. Your nation is in deep crisis.”
