You see, my seat came with exclusive frequent flyer perks. I flagged the purser mid-flight, calmly explained what happened, and let the airline handle it. The purser offered me airline miles worth upgrades on three future flights — and even upgraded my next flight to first class as an apology.

As we began descending, the purser approached the couple in “my” seat. “Mr. Malachy and Ms. Selene,” she said, “we need to discuss your seating issue.”
The woman looked nervous. “What do you mean?”
