For Erika, 37, the tragedy was personal, stripping away not just her husband but the future they envisioned together. Speaking on The Megyn Kelly Show, she opened up about the family she had hoped to grow. Already parents to a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son, Erika and Charlie had planned for four children.
“I was praying, both of us were, we were really excited to just expand our family,” Erika said, her voice heavy with emotion. “And I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered. I was like, ‘Oh goodness, that would be the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe.’”
Now, raising two young children alone, Erika’s message to others is poignant and urgent: cherish the time you have, and don’t delay life’s milestones.
“Now when I see young couples, I tell them, ‘Please, like don’t put it off,’” she explained. “You can always have a career. You can always go back to work. You can never just go back to having children—they grow so fast and so quickly.”
