The Trump administration recently deployed 2,000 additional federal agents to Minneapolis in response to allegations of social assistance fraud in the state. This deployment, which began on Sunday, is one of the largest domestic DHS personnel operations in recent years.
A DHS spokesperson said that the shots were fired after officers were obstructed and the woman reportedly attempted to drive toward law enforcement. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem described the incident as “domestic terrorism,” while former President Trump commented that the situation appeared violent and claimed the ICE agent acted in self-defense.
