FBI Reports Major Breakthrough as Search for Charlie Kirk Shooter Continues

The person responsible for the tragic shooting of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk remains at large, as authorities continue their search. On Thursday morning, the FBI held a press conference providing the latest updates in the investigation.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The FBI and the Utah Department of Public Safety have confirmed that the attack was targeted, though details about the suspect were initially limited.

During Thursday’s briefing, officials described the suspect as college-aged. Authorities also confirmed that a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting—a high-powered, bolt-action rifle—was recovered in a nearby wooded area. A footprint connected to the incident was also recovered, offering investigators crucial leads.

“I assure you that all leads and tips are being fully investigated,” FBI officials said, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the manhunt.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason expressed empathy for Kirk’s family, stating he had personally spoken with Kirk’s widow, Erika, on Wednesday evening. “The family is devastated,” Mason said. “As commissioner, as a father, as a husband, I can only imagine the pain they are experiencing.”
