Four married friends decided to escape their busy lives for a well-earned fishing trip — a day of peace, laughter, and no responsibilities. But as they cast their lines into the calm water, their chatter quickly turned to the “deals” they had struck at home just to make the trip happen.
The first man broke the ice with a laugh. “You wouldn’t believe what I had to do this weekend to be here,” he said. “I spent two full days painting the entire house — every room! My arms still ache.” The others chuckled knowingly. They all understood that a day of freedom often came with a price.
The second man smirked. “That’s nothing,” he said. “I promised my wife I’d build her a brand-new pool deck.” He described the hours of work ahead — cutting boards, hammering nails, and staining wood. “She’s been asking for years,” he added, “so I figured if I finally said yes, she’d let me go fishing.” The group laughed, recognizing the careful dance of negotiation every husband knows too well.
Then the third man chimed in, shaking his head. “You guys have it easy,” he said with mock seriousness. “I told my wife I’d remodel the entire kitchen — new cabinets, countertops, appliances, the works! I’ve already spent half my paycheck just planning it.” The others whistled, impressed. “You really wanted to fish,” one of them joked. “You have no idea,” the man replied.
