Gwyneth Paltrow is once again making headlines—this time for her candid comments about filming intimate scenes alongside Timothée Chalamet in their latest movie, Marty Supreme.
The Oscar-winning actress recently discussed the experience during a live Q&A event in California, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at the highly talked-about A24 production.
Addressing the Age Gap On Screen
At 53, Paltrow admits she initially wondered how her much younger co-star might feel about filming romantic scenes together. Chalamet, now in his late 20s, plays Marty, an ambitious table tennis prodigy chasing glory at the British Open.
“I thought it might feel awkward,” Paltrow shared during the discussion. “There’s definitely an age difference.”
However, she quickly reassured audiences that professionalism won out. According to Paltrow, Chalamet handled the situation with ease, and the two focused on delivering authentic performances rather than dwelling on the age gap.
A Passionate Storyline
In Marty Supreme, Paltrow portrays a former actress married into wealth who becomes romantically involved with Marty during his rise in the competitive sports world. The film includes several intimate scenes, including a memorable moment filmed in a public park that escalates before being interrupted by police—an artistic choice that director Josh Safdie felt was essential to the story.
Despite the bold material, Paltrow emphasized that the set remained respectful and focused on storytelling.
Her Son’s Awkward Reaction
While audiences may have embraced the on-screen chemistry, Paltrow admitted that not everyone in her household found the scenes easy to watch—especially her son.
The actress shares her 19-year-old son, Moses, with her former husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. According to Paltrow, Moses attended the Los Angeles premiere and had a very relatable reaction.
“He wanted to disappear,” she joked. “It was definitely uncomfortable for him.”
She later told Late Night with Seth Meyers that Moses covered his eyes during the more intimate moments, clearly struggling to watch his mother in such scenes.
Different Reactions at Home
Interestingly, Paltrow’s daughter, Apple, had a completely different response.
“My daughter thought it was kind of amazing,” Paltrow said. “But my son was like, ‘Mom, this is too much.’”
The contrast sparked laughs from fans, many of whom related to the awkwardness that can come with seeing a parent in romantic roles.
Box Office Success and Audience Response
Despite the family discomfort, Marty Supreme has been a major commercial win. Since its December 2025 release, the film has become one of A24’s most successful projects, surpassing $100 million at the global box office.
Public interest surged even further after paparazzi photos surfaced of Paltrow and Chalamet filming a kissing scene in New York City’s Central Park—images that fueled online discussion and media coverage.
A Hit With Moviegoers
Overall, audience reactions have leaned positive, with many praising the performances and the film’s bold storytelling. While some viewers were surprised by the age-gap romance, the movie’s financial success suggests that most embraced it.
