Morgan Freeman’s Land Donation Offers Hope for Honeybees’ Future

Morgan Freeman, the beloved actor and narrator, has dedicated 124 acres of his land to help combat the global honeybee crisis. At 81 years old, Freeman is channeling his passion for beekeeping into a noble cause by transforming his Mississippi ranch into a sanctuary for these essential insects.

Since starting beekeeping as a hobby in 2014, Freeman has set up 26 hives from Arkansas on his property and planted a variety of bee-friendly plants, including magnolia trees, lavender, and clover. He personally cares for the bees, feeding them sugar water and, remarkably, has never been stung despite not using protective gear.

Freeman’s commitment goes beyond honey production; he aims to support the dwindling honeybee population and restore balance to our planet’s ecosystem. In a 2016 interview on Larry King Live, Freeman shared his motivation for this endeavor:

“There has been a frightening loss in bee colonies, particularly in this country,” Freeman told King. “To such an extent that scientists are now saying ‘This is dangerous.’”

He elaborated on his mission in a 2014 conversation with Jimmy Fallon, saying, “There is a concerted effort for bringing bees back onto the planet. We do not realize that they are the foundation of the growth of the planet, the vegetation…”
