“You passed out in the bedroom,” Nolan said. “What happened?”
Slowly, everything came rushing back—the black box, the photos, the letters.
“I found the box,” Chad muttered.
Nolan nodded. “I took French in high school,” he said. “During dinner, I overheard Camille talking to her parents about hiding things under the bed. That’s why I told you to check.”
Camille came to the hospital, acting concerned, but Chad knew he couldn’t keep pretending things were fine.
The next day, after being discharged, he confronted her. “I know about the box under the bed,” he said. Camille was stunned, but guilt was all over her face.
She tried to explain, saying her parents had pushed her toward Benoit because they wanted her with someone French. But Chad wasn’t having it. He told her he wanted a divorce.
The divorce was rough. Camille contested everything—the house, alimony, and even asked Chad to cover her trips back to France. But he didn’t care about the house or money. He just wanted out.
After months of court battles, Chad moved into a small apartment closer to work. It wasn’t easy, but he felt a sense of freedom. He wasn’t trapped in a web of lies anymore, and that alone was a huge relief.
Chad will always be thankful to Nolan for looking out for him and helping him through the divorce. Even though the betrayal hurt, he’s glad he knows the truth. Now he can move on and start fresh, free from a relationship built on deception.
What would you have done in his shoes?
